Cavaliers Unlikely to Discuss Evan Mobley Deals, Focus Turns to Dean Wade’s Free Agency

Cleveland’s front office is expected to shut down any trade inquiries about forward Evan Mobley, league insider Marc Stein reported on Monday. Despite repeated speculation linking Mobley to packages for Milwaukee star Giannis Antetokounmpo, sources told Stein the Cavaliers have no plans to entertain offers for the 25-year-old big man.
Mobley, viewed internally as a franchise cornerstone, averaged 17.0 points and 8.1 rebounds during the playoffs and remains under contract for four more seasons. Team president Koby Altman has reiterated that the former Defensive Player of the Year is central to Cleveland’s long-term plans.
Dean Wade Tops Off-Season Checklist
Stein added that re-signing forward Dean Wade is expected to be Cleveland’s main roster priority once free agency opens. Wade, a versatile defender who can space the floor, is set to hit the market and could attract sizable offers from rival clubs. The Cavaliers value Wade’s role but may face challenges matching an aggressive bid while operating deep in luxury-tax territory.
Other Contract Decisions Loom
Guard Keon Ellis, acquired at February’s trade deadline, will also be a free agent. Ellis provided depth and perimeter defense in the regular season but saw limited postseason minutes. His future in Cleveland remains uncertain.
Meanwhile, wing Max Strus is under contract for one more year at $16.6 million. League executives view Strus as a possible trade candidate should the Cavaliers look to trim salary and create flexibility above the second tax apron, though no moves are currently imminent.
For now, team officials are said to favor continuity around a core led by Mobley. With multiple players up for new deals and luxury-tax penalties mounting, the front office faces a summer of difficult financial choices.
