Bucks Release Forward Pete Nance Before Contract Becomes Guaranteed

The Milwaukee Bucks have waived third-year forward Pete Nance just ahead of his upcoming guarantee date, according to the NBA’s official transaction log.

The move comes days before Nance’s $2.5 million salary for the 2026-27 season would have become fully guaranteed. By cutting ties now, Milwaukee avoids taking that contract hit while keeping open the possibility of a new deal at a later date.

Nance, 26, appeared in 47 games for the Bucks last season, averaging 5.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 15.7 minutes per game. He shot 51.5 percent from the field and 42 percent from three-point range.

The 6-foot-9 forward went undrafted out of North Carolina in 2023 after beginning his college career at Northwestern. He split his rookie season between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers before signing a two-way contract with Milwaukee in February 2025. The Bucks upgraded him to a standard NBA deal in March, though the contract remained fully non-guaranteed until this weekend.

Nance was listed on Milwaukee’s Summer League roster earlier this week, indicating the organization could explore bringing him back under different terms. He remains eligible to sign another two-way agreement.

The son of longtime Cavaliers star Larry Nance and younger brother of free-agent forward Larry Nance Jr., Pete Nance played high school basketball at Revere High School in Akron, Ohio. His combination of size, shooting and versatility is expected to attract interest from teams finalizing their training-camp and regular-season rosters.
