Brian Windhorst Suggests Cavs Could Target Jaylen Brown Before Chasing LeBron James

During ESPN’s NBA free-agency broadcast on Tuesday night, veteran reporter Brian Windhorst outlined a theoretical plan that would have the Cleveland Cavaliers swing a major trade for Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown, then turn their attention to signing LeBron James in free agency.
“That’s the type of move you’re going to do to get LeBron James’ attention,” Windhorst said, according to RealGM’s transcript of his on-air comments.
Windhorst stressed that he was not reporting active negotiations. Instead, he framed the concept as the kind of bold strategy that could separate Cleveland from other clubs expected to pursue James, who has informed the Los Angeles Lakers he will not return next season.
The Cavaliers remain among the teams linked to the four-time NBA champion, while the Celtics continue to gauge Brown’s trade value. Multiple reports have indicated Boston has spoken with interested franchises while weighing its options.
Windhorst floated a trade structure centered on Cavaliers forward center Evan Mobley as one possibility for landing Brown, though he acknowledged that whether either organization would seriously entertain such a swap is unknown.
For now, the proposal stands as an intriguing hypothetical rather than evidence of ongoing talks.
