Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo says the arrival of Giannis Antetokounmpo has injected new energy into the franchise as it prepares for the 2026-27 NBA campaign, even though the club fell short in its bid to lure LeBron James.
“Everybody has seen the battles that we had,” Adebayo told the Miami Herald, noting that both stars share agent Alex Saratsis. “We talked about, like, what if it would happen? And now we’re to this point. I’m excited for the season. I’m excited to be his teammate. I’m excited for the city of Miami and the energy we gained.”
James, a free agent this summer, chose to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers. Adebayo said he supports his longtime friend’s decision and is already looking forward to facing him in a stronger Eastern Conference.
“There ain’t no disappointment,” he said. “You should always be happy for a person and their decision. He made a decision where he feels like it’s his best situation to win. … Like I told him in the message, I’m going to bust his a–. So it’s going to be an exciting season.”
The three-time All-Star is entering the first season of a three-year, $160 million extension he signed in 2025. Remaining with the team that drafted him in 2017 continues to be a point of pride.
“I’m grateful to be here nine years,” Adebayo said. “I’m looking to be here three more, obviously, and then on. To be a part of this for going on 10 years, and then to have the same coach — I’m blessed to have both of those things. I got an organization that believes in me.”
