MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards was unavailable for the second game in a row Sunday because of soreness in his right foot, the team announced.

Head coach Chris Finch told reporters before tip-off against the Sacramento Kings that the discomfort “hasn’t calmed down to the point where he’s able to go,” adding that the 23-year-old remains listed as day-to-day.

The Timberwolves were also without veteran point guard Mike Conley, who missed his second consecutive contest with a right Achilles issue. Their absences pushed Bones Hyland into the starting lineup for a short-handed backcourt.

Edwards already sat out four games earlier this season due to a strained right hamstring. The three-time All-Star is eighth in the league in scoring at 28.7 points per game and has now logged more missed games than he did in the entire 2021-22 campaign, when he appeared in 72.

Because Minnesota’s schedule lightens this week, Edwards could receive up to eight days of recovery time while missing only two games. The Timberwolves next host the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.
