Former New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson has disclosed that he injured his hand shortly before the NBA Finals and was overcome with emotion after the incident, saying he “broke down in tears.”
Robinson, now with another team, did not play in the championship series because of the injury. He explained that the setback occurred in the days leading up to Game 1, but specifics of the mishap were not immediately provided. The 28-year-old center said the timing left him devastated, as he had hoped to appear in the Finals for the first time in his career.
“I just broke down in tears,” Robinson recalled, noting that team medical staff confirmed he would miss the entire series. The injury was later diagnosed as a fracture that required him to wear a protective cast.
Robinson averaged double-digit rebounds during the regular season and was expected to play a key defensive role in the playoffs. His absence forced the team to adjust its front-court rotation during the championship run.
The veteran big man added that he has begun rehabilitation and expects to be fully cleared before training camp opens in September.
