NEW YORK — Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero left Wednesday night’s game against the New York Knicks with a left groin injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

No single play appeared to cause the injury. Banchero alerted the training staff during the first-quarter break, was initially listed as questionable, and was officially ruled out shortly after halftime.

The fourth-year forward, who turned 23 on Wednesday, recorded four points and three rebounds in 12 minutes before departing. He had scored 28 points in each of his previous two outings while working his way back from a slow start to the season.

Through the first 12 games, Banchero is averaging 23.3 points, 9.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists for a Magic team expected to compete in the Eastern Conference. Last season he appeared in 46 games after missing more than two months with an oblique injury suffered in the first week of the campaign.

Orlando entered Wednesday’s matchup at Madison Square Garden one game below .500 after recovering from a 1-4 start.
