Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James has publicly criticized the city of Memphis and acknowledged that he has encouraged the Memphis Grizzlies to relocate, according to comments published Thursday, April 2, 2026.

James, 41, made the remarks while discussing NBA franchise viability, saying Memphis “isn’t the right market” for a team and revealing he has told players and executives that the Grizzlies should “find a new home.” No potential destination was specified in the comments quoted by the New York Post.

The four-time league MVP’s statements come as the Grizzlies approach the end of their FedExForum lease, which runs through the 2029–30 season. Team officials have not responded publicly to James’s remarks.

The NBA has not issued a comment on the matter.
