The New York Knicks are weighing forward OG Anunoby’s defensive range as a possible solution for slowing down emerging star Victor Wembanyama in the NBA Finals, according to a report published Sunday.

The story notes that Anunoby’s combination of size, speed and on-ball discipline gives head coach Tom Thibodeau a versatile option against the 7-foot-4 French standout, whose scoring and shot-blocking have dominated postseason headlines.

The Knicks have used Anunoby in multiple defensive roles throughout the playoffs, and team observers believe his ability to switch across positions could be critical if the club faces Wembanyama on the league’s biggest stage.

New York acquired Anunoby in December 2025 to bolster its perimeter defense; the 28-year-old has averaged 16.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals this postseason while guarding opponents from point guards to power forwards.

Wembanyama, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 draft, is averaging 24.3 points, 11.1 rebounds and 3.9 blocks in his first playoff run, prompting every opponent to search for creative defensive answers.

The Knicks have not officially named their primary defender for the potential Finals matchup, but the report frames Anunoby’s versatility as the team’s most likely answer.
