Chris Paul’s fingerprints all over 2026 NBA postseason

Los Angeles, Apr 20, 2026 — Chris Paul hung up his sneakers in February, but the retired point guard remains a central figure in this year’s NBA playoffs. Thirty-one players spread across 13 postseason rosters once passed through Paul’s CP3 Elite Guard Camp, AAU program Team CP3 or related workshops, underscoring an 18-year mentoring effort that has reached nearly 2,000 prospects.
From campers to contenders
The list of postseason participants linked to Paul includes reigning Finals MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum, Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham and New York Knicks catalyst Jalen Brunson. Paul’s camp has also welcomed De’Aaron Fox, Jamal Murray, Trae Young and other starters now chasing a ring.
Stephen Curry attended the inaugural CP3 camp in 2008 while at Davidson and later trained with Paul before entering the league. “He loves to give back and be available,” Curry said, noting that Paul’s hands-on approach inspired the structure of Curry’s own SC30 Select Camp.
MVP connection
Gilgeous-Alexander never enrolled as a camper, but after joining Paul in Oklahoma City in 2019 the veteran taught him “every little thing” about maintaining an edge, from film study to nutrition. The Thunder guard credits those lessons for helping him secure last season’s MVP trophy.
Lessons for rising stars
Brunson, a three-time attendee, recalls Paul stressing composure and pace. “Knowing who you are and not letting anything rattle you was huge for my growth,” the Knicks guard said.
Donovan Mitchell, who was drafted 13th overall in 2017, said Paul and Paul George convinced him to forgo his junior year at Louisville. Mitchell later used Paul’s midrange pick-and-roll tricks to sharpen his own game with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Orlando Magic rookie Jase Richardson, a 2023 camper and son of former NBA swingman Jason Richardson, faced Paul in November. “That’s like an uncle to me,” the first-round pick said after sharing the court with a player who entered the league the year he was born.
Retirement and next chapter
Paul’s 21st season ended abruptly. The Clippers released him at 5-16, he was traded to Toronto at the deadline, then waived, leading to a formal retirement announcement. Free from a playing schedule for the first time since 2005, the league’s No. 2 all-time assists leader says he will devote more energy to his camps and AAU teams. “Any kid who wants to ask questions, if I’ve got anything that can help, I’m going to let them know,” Paul said.
With former campers driving the 2026 title race, Paul’s influence remains as visible as ever, even from the sidelines.
