Doc Rivers says he is finished with NBA coaching following Bucks setback

NEW YORK — Doc Rivers said he plans to step away from NBA coaching for good after a disappointing stretch with the Milwaukee Bucks, declaring, “I’m done.”
The 62-year-old coach, who took over the Bucks during a turbulent season, revealed his decision in remarks published Saturday. He indicated that the experience in Milwaukee convinced him to close the chapter on his three-decade sideline career.
Rivers, a former NBA champion with the Boston Celtics and a three-time Coach of the Year winner, offered no details about future plans beyond confirming he will not pursue another coaching position.
His announcement comes less than two years after the Bucks hired him in an effort to stabilize a roster built around two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. The pairing never produced the expected results, and the early postseason exit this spring amplified questions about Rivers’ future.
Rivers has logged more than 1,100 regular-season victories with five franchises, including the Orlando Magic, Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers and Bucks. He ranks among the top 10 in career wins but has not reached the NBA Finals since 2010.
“It’s time,” he said when asked whether he would consider another job. “I’m ready to be done.”
