Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse was away from the team on Tuesday to attend the funeral of his brother, Steve Nurse, in Ankeny, Iowa.

Steve Nurse died unexpectedly last Wednesday at the age of 62. Nick Nurse left the club after Monday’s 137-98 defeat to the New York Knicks in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series.

The 58-year-old coach is scheduled to rejoin the 76ers for Game 2 on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.

Knicks coach Mike Brown offered condolences during a media availability at the team’s practice facility in Greenburgh, New York. “Life is precious and you don’t wish that upon anybody,” Brown said.
