The Boston Celtics are not actively shopping guard Derrick White, but league sources say the club has at least entertained inquiries about the veteran, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Boston, searching for front-court depth, reportedly contacted the Minnesota Timberwolves about center Rudy Gobert prior to February’s trade deadline. Sam Amick of The Athletic previously noted Minnesota’s “strong interest” in White. White is owed $30.4 million for 2026-27, while Gobert is set to earn $36.5 million.
Fischer adds that Minnesota is not believed to be actively moving Gobert, yet a Gobert-for-White framework aligns with the Timberwolves’ desire to upgrade their backcourt and better complement star guard Anthony Edwards.
Timberwolves’ trade chips
Individuals familiar with the situation told Fischer that Minnesota has been more willing to discuss forward Julius Randle in trade talks than Gobert. Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid are considered off-limits. Fischer wonders what a Randle-centered package might net, pointing to Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant as a “very available” target.
Draft outlook
Despite persistent links to guard Darius Acuff, league chatter suggests the Sacramento Kings are comfortable selecting whichever guard tops their board at No. 7, not exclusively Acuff. Fischer hears forwards Keaton Wagler and Mikel Brown are poised to go fifth and sixth to the Clippers and Nets, respectively; both players canceled workouts with Sacramento, signaling confidence in their draft range.
The Washington Wizards remain undecided on the No. 1 pick as they deliberate between AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson. Fischer reports Utah is unlikely to trade up from No. 2 to secure Dybantsa.
Elsewhere, the Atlanta Hawks have shown no inclination to move up from the eighth slot, according to Fischer.
