San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox has reached a four-year, $229 million maximum contract extension that will keep him with the franchise through the 2029-30 season, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN on Monday.
The deal, finalized on Aug. 4, 2025, contains no player option in the final year. Fox, 27, became eligible for the new agreement after the Spurs acquired him from the Sacramento Kings at February’s trade deadline.
“Just being able to be part of an organization like this … you come in here and you feel that,” Fox said in a statement released by the team. “You see those banners hanging … there’s nothing you can do besides try to build on that.”
Building a young core
San Antonio selected guard Dylan Harper with the No. 2 pick in June’s draft, joining Fox and last year’s No. 4 pick, Stephon Castle, in an emerging backcourt. Fox has also formed a close bond with 2024-25 Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama; the two appeared together in only five games last season because of injuries.
Season cut short by surgery
Fox averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists in 17 games for San Antonio before undergoing season-ending surgery on March 18 to repair tendon damage in his left pinkie, an injury first sustained during training camp. Across 62 combined games with the Spurs and Kings, he posted 23.5 points, 6.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds.
On Nov. 15, he scored 60 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves, setting a Kings franchise record. Only Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić matched that scoring feat last season.

Consistent production
Since entering the league in 2017-18, Fox has joined Dallas Mavericks star Luka Dončić as the only players to average at least 20 points, five assists and one steal in each of the past six seasons. He is also one of four players—alongside James Harden, Russell Westbrook and Jokić—to compile 10,000 points, 3,000 assists and 700 steals over that span.
“What’ll be different going forward is fans will see me play with 10 fingers,” Fox joked after signing.
