The NBA offseason continues to reshape rosters and expectations around the league, with contract talks in Portland, developmental goals in Detroit and a family reunion on hold in Golden State.
Trail Blazers
Guard Shaedon Sharpe is moving toward a lucrative new contract. League sources told The Stein Line that the 22-year-old is expected to secure an extension of at least four years and $100 million. Portland’s initial offer was closer to four years and $90 million, but front-office executives around the league anticipate the final number will mirror the four-year, $100 million agreement guard Josh Giddey received from Chicago.
Sharpe averaged 18.5 points and 4.5 rebounds last season and is viewed as a cornerstone of the Trail Blazers’ rebuild.
Pistons
NBA.com slotted Detroit fourth in its latest Eastern Conference power rankings, noting that the club’s next leap will hinge on reducing turnovers and fouls. While guard Cade Cunningham has emerged as a franchise star, he posted the second-highest turnover rate among 20 high-usage players in last season’s playoffs.
The impending returns of Jaden Ivey and the continued growth of Ausar Thompson are expected to help, yet Detroit finished last year ranked 21st in turnover rate and 27th in opponent free-throw rate. Both categories remain priorities as the Pistons aim to accelerate their progress.
Warriors
Seth Curry is finally set to share a locker room with older brother Stephen Curry, though the pairing will come with a delay. Seth signed a non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 contract with Golden State but is projected to be waived before opening night because of the team’s hard cap. The guard is expected to rejoin the Warriors later on a prorated veteran-minimum deal.
Seth, a career 43.3 percent three-point shooter, told reporters he had wanted to establish his own career path before teaming up with his sibling. Coach Steve Kerr added that the timing now makes sense for both parties. “Everybody’s excited about it,” Seth said, adding with a smile, “except maybe my dad. He didn’t want me to leave Charlotte.”
