The NBA G League and the Next Gen Basketball Players Union (NGBPU) have reached a preliminary agreement on the league’s first collective bargaining agreement, ESPN’s Tim Bontemps reported on social media.

Details released so far indicate higher base salaries for G League athletes and larger payments for players who sign NBA contracts, are subsequently waived, and then return to the G League. This season, that bonus had been limited to $85,300.

The pending CBA would also expand the number of players eligible to join G League rosters after being waived from Exhibit 10 contracts, and it is expected to loosen current restrictions on player movement within the league.

Founded in 2020, the NGBPU held its first General Assembly in 2024, electing Rob Baker of the Osceola Magic as president and Yauhen Massalski of the San Diego Clippers as secretary-treasurer. “This CBA negotiation represents a critical opportunity to elevate the professional basketball experience for our players and also impact the quality of the game for fans,” Massalski said during that meeting. “We’re committed to ensuring that our members’ voices are heard and that their needs are met.”

The agreement still requires formal ratification by both the union membership and the league before it takes effect.
