The Atlanta Hawks head into training camp with three prominent newcomers—Kristaps Porzingis, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard—after an active offseason that included a trade for Porzingis and free-agent deals with Alexander-Walker and Kennard.

Head coach Quin Snyder said the additions give the roster the flexibility he believes is necessary for sustained success.

“Our players have to understand that every game is different,” Snyder told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We have the versatility, whether it’s matchups or style, to play a few different ways. It’s a slow burn, but we can still be urgent about pursuing that.”

Coaching Staff Sees Specific Roles for Each Arrival

• Snyder praised Alexander-Walker for his ability to defend at the point of attack.
• He called Porzingis “versatile defensively,” highlighting the 7-foot-3 forward’s capacity to protect the rim and switch across positions.
• Kennard, known for three-point accuracy, was described as “more than a shooter.”

Young Approaches Camp Without Extension

All-Star guard Trae Young will open camp without a new contract, though he is eligible for a four-year extension projected at $223 million. Young said the situation will not distract him. “I’m focused on this team. I’m here and I’m present,” he told ESPN.

Kennard, Daniels Outline Fits in System

Signed to a one-year deal, Kennard said Snyder’s offense suits his strengths: “Pace, ball movement, flow.”
Guard Dyson Daniels added that he is prepared to handle point-guard duties when required, despite entering camp primarily as a wing.

Johnson Reports Full Health After Surgery

Forward Jalen Johnson, whose season ended with shoulder surgery in late January, declared himself fully healthy. Johnson said he worked out with LeBron James during the summer and is “ready for the upcoming season.”
