INDIANAPOLIS — August 6, 2025: Indiana Pacers assistant coach Mike Weinar has taken his name out of the running for the New York Knicks’ lead assistant and offensive coordinator post, according to reports from Stefan Bondy of the New York Post and Ian Begley of SNY.
Bondy first relayed the decision in a social-media post Wednesday morning, while Begley confirmed that Weinar was no longer pursuing the job on Mike Brown’s staff. Bondy added that family considerations influenced the move.
With Weinar withdrawing, Charlotte Hornets assistant Chris Jent remains among the leading candidates to become Brown’s top aide. Jent coached the Hornets’ Summer League squad to a championship last month and previously spent five seasons on the Atlanta Hawks’ bench (2017-22) and two years with the Los Angeles Lakers (2022-24). He also served as Orlando’s interim head coach for the final 18 games of the 2004-05 campaign.
Weinar has worked under head coach Rick Carlisle for most of his NBA career, first in Dallas and now in Indiana. The former Mavericks staffer transitioned from the club’s basketball operations department to coaching duties and was part of Dallas’ 2011 championship run.
