Sixers Issue First Formal Offer to Restricted Free Agent Quentin Grimes

The Philadelphia 76ers have made their first formal contract proposal to restricted free-agent guard Quentin Grimes, according to a report by Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

Grimes and the 76ers have been in contact throughout the summer through his agent, David Bauman, discussing several potential contract structures. The team waited until earlier this week to submit an official bid after determining there was still a sizable gap between its offer and the terms Grimes’ camp is pursuing.

Possible Deal Structure

The most likely resolution, per the report, is a one-year agreement worth more than Grimes’ $8.7 million qualifying offer. A sign-and-trade was considered briefly but is no longer viewed as a viable option.

Qualifying Offer Deadline

Bauman asked Philadelphia to postpone the qualifying offer deadline from Oct. 1 to Oct. 8 to account for the club’s preseason trip to Abu Dhabi. The 76ers have not agreed to move the date.

Cap Management Efforts

The front office explored trading Kelly Oubre Jr. or Andre Drummond to open salary-cap space for a richer deal with Grimes. However, management has been unwilling to include draft picks in any salary-dump scenario, signaling a cautious approach to cap flexibility.

Negotiations remain active as the October deadline approaches.
