The Los Angeles Lakers waived guard Jarron Cumberland on September 26 to clear roster space for Tevian Jones, according to The Athletic.

Jones, a 6’7” guard, is expected to join the club on an Exhibit 10 contract. The 25-year-old went undrafted in 2023 after five collegiate seasons—two at Illinois and three at Southern Utah—where he averaged 17.8 points and 4.4 rebounds as a senior.

Last season with the G League’s Grand Rapids Gold, Jones posted 15.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, shooting 41.5 percent from the field, 34.6 percent from deep and 73.2 percent at the line. He previously signed and was waived by the New Orleans Pelicans in 2023.

If Los Angeles releases Jones before the regular season opens, he can report to the South Bay Lakers, who acquired his returning rights earlier this month. Remaining with South Bay for at least 60 days would earn him a bonus of up to $85,300, the same incentive available to Cumberland and forward Arthur Kaluma, who was waived last week.
