Quentin Grimes Calls Signing With Lakers a ‘Full-Circle’ Moment

Guard Quentin Grimes said joining the Los Angeles Lakers fulfills a childhood dream rooted in family loyalty, calling the move a “full-circle moment” during his introductory interview with the team.
Grimes, born and raised in Houston, explained that his father was a lifelong Lakers supporter who dressed him in team colors as a baby and took him to see Kobe Bryant when the Lakers visited the Rockets. “My dad grew up a Lakers fan,” Grimes said. “He dressed me up as a little Laker and took me to Lakers games. He was super excited once we made that decision in free agency.”
The 25-year-old guard is expected to start alongside Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, providing perimeter defense and secondary playmaking. “You can expect a do-it-all kind of guy—scorer, defender, can make plays off the dribble,” Grimes said. “We have really good guys all around, so I’m super excited to be here and get to work.”
Productive stint in Philadelphia
Grimes arrives after a strong stretch with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he averaged 15.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists across 103 games following his mid-2025 acquisition. He also logged a brief stint with Dallas, giving him previous on-court experience with Doncic.
Busy offseason in Los Angeles
The Lakers added several new faces this summer, including Walker Kesler, Sandro Mamukelashvili and Collin Sexton. Grimes believes the revamped roster can exceed expectations. “I think this team will surprise a lot of people,” he said.
