Sportsbooks have reshuffled their Eastern Conference odds after Philadelphia’s aggressive offseason, placing the 76ers alongside the reigning-champion Knicks as co-favorites to reach the 2027 NBA Finals.

Philadelphia’s revamped core now features Jaylen Brown and LeBron James next to Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and rookie VJ Edgecombe. The star-studded lineup is drawing early hype, but injuries and fit remain question marks. Embiid has not appeared in more than 39 regular-season games in any of the last three years, and his backups—Adem Bona and Ariel Hukporti—are unproven.

New York still on top of most boards after last season’s title, yet the Knicks must replace starting center Mitchell Robinson, who signed with Boston.

Boston bets on a healthy Jayson Tatum and incoming veteran Paul George. The Celtics posted a strong 2025/26 regular season while Tatum recovered from an Achilles tear, but Brown’s departure and George’s age (36) introduce uncertainty.

Detroit led the conference with 60 wins in 2025/26 yet stumbled in the first round. The Pistons added shooters John Collins, Isaiah Joe and Taurean Prince but lost Isaiah Stewart and Tobias Harris, and have not re-signed restricted free-agent center Jalen Duren. Rookie Ebuka Okorie was the lone draft addition, leaving Cade Cunningham with continued heavy playmaking duties.

Cleveland reached the East finals before losing Dean Wade and Keon Ellis in free agency. First-round pick Meleek Thomas and veteran Mario Hezonja are the Cavaliers’ only offseason arrivals so far.

Miami swung big for Giannis Antetokounmpo, pairing him with Bam Adebayo but sacrificing depth: Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kelel Ware and Kasparas Jakucionis went to Milwaukee, while Norman Powell left in free agency.

Toronto’s bid for Kawhi Leonard remains stalled as the NBA reviews the transaction under the Aspiration investigation. Even if completed, the Raptors would have little cap room to address a roster that ranked 26th in three-pointers made in 2025/26.

Indiana eyes a rebound with Tyrese Haliburton returning from an Achilles injury to join newly acquired center Ivica Zubac. Haliburton has not played in over a year.

Orlando and Atlanta expect repeat playoff trips. The Magic, derailed by injuries last season, nearly upset Detroit after taking a 3-1 first-round lead before Franz Wagner hurt his calf. The Hawks closed the regular season 19-5 and added Luguentz Dort and Aaron Wiggins while retaining their core.

Charlotte’s 28-10 finish and Washington’s influx of Trae Young, Anthony Davis and top pick AJ Dybantsa give the conference 12 plausible postseason hopefuls competing for eight guaranteed spots. With the Spurs and Thunder widely viewed as league-wide favorites, the East could offer deeper overall competition in 2026/27.
