Los Angeles — July 30, 2026 — LeBron James and his longtime business partner Maverick Carter said Thursday that they are not developing a documentary series modeled on Michael Jordan’s “The Last Dance.”
Speculation about a potential project began circulating earlier this week, suggesting the Los Angeles Lakers forward was gathering behind-the-scenes footage for a multi-part production centered on his career. In separate statements, both James and Carter dismissed the reports as unfounded.
“There’s no truth to it,” James said, according to multiple outlets. Carter echoed the sentiment, adding that neither SpringHill Company — the media firm he co-founded with James — nor any of its affiliates have plans for a Jordan-style retrospective.
Rumors intensified after fans noted that camera crews frequently follow James during team activities. Carter clarified that the footage is intended for routine digital content and archival purposes, not for a large-scale documentary.
James, 41, is entering his 24th NBA season and has previously produced sports projects, including the HBO series “The Shop.” Even so, he insists any future long-form treatment of his career is a distant possibility. “Right now, my focus is on winning basketball games,” he said.
Neither James nor Carter offered additional details or timelines for any prospective documentary endeavors.
