LeBron James has agreed to join the Philadelphia 76ers, capping a recruitment drive that center Joel Embiid first launched on social media in 2014.
Embiid, drafted by Philadelphia that same year, began publicly courting the four-time NBA champion shortly after arriving in the league. Using Twitter and other platforms, the then-rookie urged James to “come to Philly,” turning the plea into a running theme over the next 10 seasons.
The 76ers confirmed James’s decision on Wednesday. Contract terms were not released.
James, 39, leaves the Los Angeles Lakers after six seasons. His move gives Philadelphia a high-profile addition alongside Embiid as the franchise aims to return to championship contention.
