LeBron James has committed to the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year contract at the veteran minimum, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania, who cited agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports. The agreement includes a player option for the second season.
Klutch Sports confirmed the deal in a public statement, and James announced his choice in a series of social-media posts. “I still truly love this game, and I have more to give,” he wrote, adding that joining Philadelphia offers “a chance at the feeling of winning another championship.”
The 41-year-old forward became an unrestricted free agent on June 30 after informing the Los Angeles Lakers he would not return following eight seasons with the franchise. During the ensuing weeks, he considered the Heat, Cavaliers, Warriors, Timberwolves and Nuggets before settling on Philadelphia.
James, a four-time MVP and four-time Finals MVP, said this move is not motivated by salary or family considerations. “This is my last decision,” he posted. “I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base.”
Further contract details, including official signing date and roster moves by the 76ers, have not yet been disclosed.
