The NBA’s fourth week of free agency is underway, and LeBron James remains without a contract. According to a person familiar with the situation who spoke to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, the four-time MVP might still be weighing his options.

“Nobody knows right now except LeBron, and I’m not even sure LeBron knows,” the unnamed source told Vardon.

James, 41, has been most frequently linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors, with the Minnesota Timberwolves also mentioned. ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported that Golden State has received no indication it is a frontrunner.

During an appearance at Fanatics Fest last week, James outlined his criteria for selecting what could be his final NBA stop: “I want to compete at a high level. I want to join a franchise that shares the same model as myself—that’s practicing championship habits every day.”

James became an unrestricted free agent after opting not to return to the Los Angeles Lakers for a ninth season. Last year he averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds, then increased his scoring to 23.2 points over 10 playoff games. He turns 42 in December, narrowing the window for further title pursuits.

Recruiting efforts, social-media speculation and assorted rumors have circulated for more than three weeks, yet no decision appears imminent. League executives, fans and teammates across multiple cities continue to wait for clarity—possibly alongside James himself.
