Celtics lock in Jordan Walsh, Rockets secure Jae’Sean Tate and Isaiah Crawford, Gueye set for Valencia

The Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets and Charlotte Hornets all made roster moves on Friday, headlined by a multi-year extension for Celtics forward Jordan Walsh.
Celtics extend Walsh through 2029-30
Boston reached a three-year extension with Walsh that will start in the 2027-28 season. ESPN’s Shams Charania pegged the deal at $15 million, while TNT’s Chris Haynes reported $16 million. The first two seasons are fully guaranteed and the Celtics hold a team option for 2029-30, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.
Walsh, 22, is due about $2.4 million for 2024-25. Drafted 38th overall in 2023, the 6-foot-6 wing appeared in 68 games last season (25 starts) and averaged 5.4 points and 4.0 rebounds in 17.8 minutes, shooting 50.9 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from three.
The agreement continues Boston’s summer strategy of retaining internal talent after new contracts for Ron Harper Jr. and center Neemias Queta.
Rockets keep Tate, upgrade Crawford
Houston re-signed veteran forward Jae’Sean Tate to a one-year minimum contract that carries a $1.04 million partial guarantee, per Scotto. The 30-year-old, the club’s longest-tenured player, averaged 2.8 points and 1.6 rebounds in 46 appearances last season.
Forward Isaiah Crawford, 24, moved from a two-way slot to a four-year standard deal worth roughly $11.3 million at the minimum, reports the Houston Chronicle. David Weiner of ClutchFans noted the contract is fully non-guaranteed with a team option in the fourth year. Crawford played 14 NBA games in 2023-24 and averaged 19.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.1 steals for Rio Grande Valley in the G League.
The Rockets now have 15 standard contracts and sit about $2.6 million over the luxury-tax threshold. Waiving guard JD Davison, whose $2.58 million salary is non-guaranteed, would move them below the line.
Gueye heading to Spain
Forward Mouhamadou Gueye has agreed to join Valencia Basket in Spain’s Liga ACB. The 28-year-old remains under contract with Charlotte, but the Hornets are expected to waive him, clearing the path for the move.
Gueye averaged 14.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks last season with the Windy City Bulls of the G League, earning a late-season NBA contract from Chicago. The Bulls exercised his option for trade purposes, and he landed in Charlotte in an expanded multi-team deal.
Valencia finished second in the EuroLeague regular season and reached the Final Four in 2024.
