Wizards Still Seeking Backup Guard; Nuggets Keep Turning Away Calls on Cam Johnson; Hawks Hope to Retain Dort Long-Term

The Washington Wizards, Denver Nuggets and Atlanta Hawks remain active behind the scenes as the NBA offseason continues, according to a series of reports from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.
Wizards
Washington’s roster sits at 14 standard contracts, and team officials are pursuing a backup point guard to fill the final spot, Scotto reported. Free agents Brandon Williams, Gabe Vincent, Cameron Payne, Aaron Holiday and Cole Anthony are among the available veterans who fit the role.
Russell Westbrook had been linked to a potential return, but league insider Jake Fischer recently indicated a reunion is unlikely. The Wizards also intend to open extension discussions with Anthony Davis when he becomes eligible on Aug. 6.
Nuggets
Multiple clubs have inquired about forward Cameron Johnson, but Denver has consistently declined trade overtures, per Scotto. Despite salary-cap pressures, the Nuggets continue to view Johnson as a key rotation piece and have shown no inclination to move him.
Hawks
After acquiring Luguentz Dort from Oklahoma City last week, Atlanta plans to explore keeping the defensive wing beyond the 2026-27 season, Scotto wrote. Before the trade, the Lakers, Heat, Raptors and Nets also expressed interest. Dort can enter unrestricted free agency next summer, and the Hawks hope he remains part of their developing core.
