Paris Basketball Taps Timberwolves Assistant Max Lefevre as New Head Coach

Paris Basketball has appointed Minnesota Timberwolves assistant coach Max Lefevre as its next head coach, the French club announced Tuesday on social media.
The move sends Lefevre overseas after seven seasons in Minnesota. He joined the Timberwolves in 2019 as a player development associate and video coordinator, then earned a promotion to a full assistant role on head coach Chris Finch’s staff in 2024.
Lefevre’s résumé also includes five seasons in college basketball (2014-19), where he served as a graduate assistant, director of basketball operations, and director of player development across multiple programs.
His departure creates another vacancy on Finch’s bench. Lead assistant Micah Nori left earlier in the offseason to join the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Timberwolves must now replace two staff members.
Paris Basketball had considered several NBA assistants and former head coaches while searching for a successor to Julius Thomas. Among those linked to the EuroLeague club were Dave Joerger and Jay Triano; Triano is set to join Nori in Portland, while Joerger is reportedly likely to land in Denver.
Lefevre takes over a roster looking to rebound in EuroLeague play. Paris Basketball reached the postseason in 2024/25 but slipped to a 15-23 record in 2025/26. Domestically, the team finished second in the LNB Élite standings last season before falling to AS Monaco in the championship series.
