Lakers Waive Peter Suder to Open Two-Way Slot for Arthur Kaluma

The Los Angeles Lakers have released guard Peter Suder, clearing the way to sign forward Arthur Kaluma to a two-way contract, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported on July 21, 2026.
The move was necessary because Los Angeles had already filled its allotment of three two-way spots with Chris Mañon, AK Okereke and Suder. Kaluma emerged as a target after a strong showing in the NBA Summer League.
According to McMenamin, the organization’s G League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Lakers, would welcome Suder if he chooses to join them, though the 23-year-old intends to explore other opportunities.
Summer League Performance Influenced Decision
Suder flashed playmaking and outside shooting during Summer League but struggled with the physicality of NBA competition. He was held out of the rotation in Los Angeles’ semifinal loss to the Golden State Warriors in Las Vegas, signaling his tenuous grasp on a roster spot.
The Indiana native signed with the Lakers as an undrafted free agent from Miami (Ohio). As a senior, he earned MAC Player of the Year honors after averaging 14.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 54.6 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from three-point range.
If no other two-way offer materializes, Suder could return to training camp on an Exhibit 10 contract and begin the 2026-27 season with Coachella Valley to continue his development.
Cameron Carr Focused on Growth
First-round pick Cameron Carr was another bright spot for the Lakers in Las Vegas. Selected 24th overall, the rookie said he plans to “keep learning and growing” while competing for rotation minutes during the upcoming season.
Los Angeles has emphasized player development, and the combination of Carr, Kaluma and the remaining two-way players provides additional avenues to deepen the roster.
