Guard Dillon Jones, currently vying for a place on the New York Knicks roster, said he was struck by head coach Mike Brown’s “humility” after Brown accepted strategic advice Jones offered ahead of the recent NBA Finals.
Jones, speaking on July 14, explained that he shared a specific suggestion with Brown before the championship series. According to the 22-year-old, the veteran coach incorporated the tip into his game plan, prompting Jones to credit Brown for being open to input from a younger player still fighting for an NBA role.
“Not every coach will listen to someone in my position,” Jones said, adding that Brown’s willingness to consider outside perspectives showed a level of respect and flexibility he admires.
Jones, who went undrafted but joined the Knicks’ summer program, hopes his interaction with Brown underscores the basketball IQ he can bring to an NBA locker room. The 6-foot-6 guard is expected to continue workouts with New York as he attempts to secure a contract for the 2026-27 season.
