NBA forward Brandon Clarke was discovered dead in California shortly after he was allegedly caught with kratom, a substance sometimes referred to as “gas station heroin,” the New York Post reported.

The outlet said the incident involving the herbal drug was captured on video before Clarke’s death. Kratom, which can be purchased at some gas stations and convenience stores, has been linked by federal regulators to serious health risks when consumed in large quantities.

Clarke’s body was reportedly found in Los Angeles on July 12, 2026. Details about the exact circumstances of his death and any official cause have not yet been released.

Before entering the NBA, Clarke starred at Gonzaga University and was known for his athleticism and defensive skills. He was drafted 21st overall in 2019 and most recently played for the Memphis Grizzlies.
