The Charlotte Hornets have opened discussions on a rookie-scale extension with forward Brandon Miller, head of basketball operations Jeff Peterson said Saturday. Speaking to reporters, Peterson emphasized the franchise’s commitment to the 2024 No. 2 overall pick, stating, “We want Brandon here for a very, very long time.”
Miller, extension-eligible until the eve of the 2026-27 regular season, averaged 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.0 steal while shooting 43.5% from the field, 38.3% from three and 89.2% from the foul line over 65 games last year.
Summer League Highlights Across the Southeast
Wizards: Top draft pick AJ Dybantsa scored 27 points, grabbed seven rebounds and added two assists, two steals and a block in Thursday’s Las Vegas Summer League win against the Jazz. The 19-year-old outperformed No. 2 pick Darryn Peterson despite both prospects struggling from the floor.
Hawks: Second-round center Henri Veesaar, selected 52nd in June, posted 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, six rebounds and a block in Thursday’s Salt Lake City Summer League victory. The Estonian rookie said he is embracing contact and focusing on setting effective screens under the guidance of assistant coach Sean May.
Heat: Newly acquired guard Davion Mitchell plans to travel to Greece later this month to train with two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Mitchell will already be in Europe for an NBPA event in Spain and said he has been sharpening his catch-and-shoot game and trimming weight to boost defensive mobility.
