Los Angeles Lakers first-round pick Cameron Carr made his professional debut Friday night in the California Classic Summer League, posting 19 points in a lopsided loss to the Golden State Warriors at Chase Center in San Francisco.
The No. 24 overall selection converted 7 of 15 shots from the field and 5 of 11 from three-point range while adding two rebounds and one assist. Despite the 2026 Baylor product’s effort, the Lakers struggled offensively outside of his contributions.
Speaking afterward, Carr said wearing the Lakers’ purple and gold for the first time felt “exciting” and “a blessing.” He acknowledged battling nerves early, which eased after he sank two of his first three attempts from beyond the arc.
“If I said I wasn’t nervous, I’d be lying,” Carr told reporters. “I was probably nervous and excited. I was just ready for the ball to go up so I could compete with these guys.”
Looking ahead, the rookie outlined a plan to add muscle and improve his defensive presence. “First things first, I’ve got to put on some weight,” he said, adding that the weight room will become his “second home” this offseason. Carr also noted he intends to learn from the Lakers’ veteran core while aiming to be a two-way contributor.
The Lakers have targeted an increase in three-point attempts for the upcoming NBA season, and Carr’s perimeter accuracy could address that need from the bench.
