The San Antonio Spurs have reached a two-year, $31 million agreement with veteran forward Tobias Harris, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Harris, 33, departs the Detroit Pistons after two seasons in which he helped steer the club back into playoff contention. Last year he averaged 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists across 63 games while serving as a steady presence alongside guard Cade Cunningham.

The Pistons’ decision earlier in the day to commit three years and $51 million to forward John Collins cleared the path for Harris’s exit. San Antonio had been connected to several experienced forwards—Harris, Rui Hachimura and Collins—before opting for Harris on a shorter deal that injects shooting and versatility around reigning Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama and the franchise’s young core.

Set to turn 34 later this month, Harris has appeared in more than 1,000 NBA games since entering the league in 2011. His career includes stops with Milwaukee, Orlando, Detroit, the LA Clippers, Philadelphia and a second stint with the Pistons.

The Spurs, last season’s Western Conference champions, hope Harris’s experience will bolster a roster aiming to return to the NBA Finals.
