LOS ANGELES — July 1, 2026: The Los Angeles Lakers have reached a two-year, $19 million agreement with free-agent guard Collin Sexton, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The contract carries a player option for the 2027-28 season.

The move comes as the Lakers reshape their roster ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. Earlier in the day, the club completed a sign-and-trade with the Utah Jazz for center Walker Kessler and struck separate deals with forward Sandro Mamukelashvili and guard Quentin Grimes.

Sexton, 27, opened last season with the Charlotte Hornets before a midyear trade to the Chicago Bulls. Serving mainly as a sixth man in Chicago, he averaged 17.5 points on 48.2 percent shooting, including 41 percent from three-point range.

A first-round pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2018, Sexton is set to join his fifth NBA team. He spent four seasons in Cleveland and three with Utah before brief stops in Charlotte and Chicago. Over eight professional seasons, the 6-foot-1 guard owns career averages of 18.3 points and 38.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

Sexton’s addition helps offset the departures of two Lakers free agents: Luke Kennard, who signed a two-year, $13 million contract with the Phoenix Suns, and Marcus Smart, who agreed to terms with the Houston Rockets.

The Lakers are entering a new phase after LeBron James informed the organization he will leave in free agency. Management is now focusing on constructing a roster around Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves while maintaining financial flexibility.
