The Atlanta Hawks have acquired guard Devin Carter and Sacramento’s 2033 second-round draft pick from the Sacramento Kings, the teams announced. The deal became official on June 30 after league approval.
In exchange, Sacramento received the draft rights to former second-round selection Alpha Kaba, completing the transaction.
Carter, 24, entered the league as the 13th overall choice in the 2024 draft. Shoulder surgery delayed his rookie campaign, and ankle, back and calf injuries limited his availability during the 2025/26 season. Over two years with Sacramento he played 74 regular-season games, averaging 6.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 14.8 minutes while shooting .401 from the field, .274 from three-point range and .674 at the foul line.
The 6-foot-4 guard is owed a guaranteed $5.16 million for 2026/27. His new team must decide on a $7.37 million option for 2027/28 by Oct. 31, 2026.
Atlanta is expected to absorb Carter’s contract using the trade exception created last summer in the Clint Capela sign-and-trade with Houston. That exception expires on July 6.
