Golden State forward Draymond Green will forgo his $27.7 million player option for the 2026-27 season, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The move grants the Warriors additional salary flexibility as they explore a pursuit of Lakers free agent LeBron James and a possible trade for Wizards center Anthony Davis.
Before Green’s decision, the Warriors sat roughly $20 million below the first tax apron, ESPN cap analyst Bobby Marks noted. Removing Green’s salary—at least temporarily—gives the club access to the full $15 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception.
Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reports that Golden State plans to use that exception in its bid for James and remains optimistic about acquiring both veteran stars. Siegel adds that Green is open to returning on a reduced deal to facilitate those efforts.
No timetable has been set for further negotiations.
