New York, June 27, 2026 — The New York Knicks have issued a cease-and-desist letter to Aber Kawas, a candidate for the New York State Senate, demanding that her campaign pull an advertisement the team calls “false advertising.”

The letter, delivered Thursday, states that the spot allegedly misrepresents or improperly associates the NBA franchise with Kawas’s bid for office. Team lawyers told the campaign to remove the material immediately or face possible legal action.

Kawas is backed by state Assembly Member Zohran Mamdani. Neither her campaign nor the Knicks released further details about the disputed ad on Friday.

The demand arrives as Kawas seeks to shore up support ahead of the upcoming Democratic primary.
