Rockets, Hornets currently not in talks for Celtics’ Jaylen Brown

The Houston Rockets and Charlotte Hornets are not actively discussing a trade for Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown, according to reporters Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

Recent speculation had connected both clubs to the four-time All-Star, but sources told Stein and Fischer that neither franchise is engaged with Boston at this time.

Houston appeared a logical suitor because head coach Ime Udoka coached Brown during the Celtics’ 2021-22 run to the NBA Finals. The Rockets also have players who could interest Boston, and the Celtics have previously shown admiration for center Alperen Şengün.

Charlotte possesses a stockpile of draft picks after sending LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier this week, fueling reports that the Hornets might enter the Brown sweepstakes. For now, however, no negotiations are underway.

League dynamics can shift quickly; Houston publicly downplayed pursuit of Kevin Durant last season before acquiring him once the price dropped. Brown, 27, becomes eligible in July for a two-year contract extension worth $141.8 million.

Stein and Fischer added that the Portland Trail Blazers remain the team most often linked to Boston in potential Brown talks.
