Golden State’s offseason is taking shape on multiple fronts, with decisions looming on De’Anthony Melton, ongoing talks with Kristaps Porziņģis, a finalized contract for Al Horford and an addition to the club’s Summer League roster.
Melton expected to test market
League sources told ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel that guard De’Anthony Melton is likely to join another team once free agency opens. The 28-year-old signed a minimum contract last season and holds a $3.45 million player option for 2026-27. ESPN’s Anthony Slater previously reported Melton is expected to decline that option, though a return to the Warriors remains possible.
Pressed into a larger role by injuries, Melton produced career highs with 12.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals in 23.0 minutes over 49 games (24 starts). He shot 50.5 percent on two-pointers and 82.6 percent at the foul line but hit only 29.4 percent from deep after making 38.3 percent of his threes over the previous five seasons.
Porziņģis talks continue
Siegel reported that both Golden State and Porziņģis are interested in reaching a new deal and have been “actively engaged” in negotiations. Slater recently noted growing momentum toward a short-term agreement between the sides.
Backcourt help remains priority
The Warriors are searching for an additional play-maker, according to Siegel. Team officials had targeted former Arizona guard Brayden Burries with the No. 11 pick, expecting him to slide after Atlanta and Dallas selected elsewhere at Nos. 8 and 9. Milwaukee thwarted that plan by taking Burries at No. 10, prompting Golden State to select big man Yaxel Lendeborg.
Horford’s new deal includes trade kicker
Horford’s two-year, $14 million agreement features a 15 percent trade kicker, sources told Siegel. Slater and ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Thursday that the 40-year-old center declined a $6 million player option before re-signing.
Olbrich joins Summer League squad
Former Bulls forward/center Lachlan Olbrich will play for the Warriors during July’s Summer League, ESPN’s Olgun Uluc reported. The 22-year-old Australian, drafted 55th in 2025, averaged 2.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in 9.3 minutes across 37 games on a two-way contract with Chicago. The Bulls did not extend a qualifying offer, leaving him unrestricted.
The Warriors’ Summer League team is scheduled to open play next month in Las Vegas as the front office continues working through free-agency decisions.
