Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are under internal pressure to overhaul the roster after another year without a championship, The Athletic’s Dan Woike reports. Executives are gauging the market but have found limited interest in packages centered on Jarred Vanderbilt, rookie Dalton Knecht and future draft picks.
Front-office discussions are said to prioritize adding younger, more athletic frontcourt players. That approach could tilt the club toward keeping Marcus Smart rather than pursuing Deandre Ayton, while continuing to explore alternate options at center. Portland’s Robert Williams III is one name on Los Angeles’ list, though the Trail Blazers reportedly prefer to keep him.
The Lakers are also conducting a search for an assistant general manager as the off-season begins.
Pacers
Indiana’s trade for Ivica Zubac remains a major storyline after injuries limited the veteran center to five appearances following the deal, Tony East of Circle City Spin notes. Zubac said his brief stint on the floor allowed him to start learning Rick Carlisle’s system, but most of the adjustment still lies ahead.
With an entire summer to prepare, the Pacers expect Zubac to form a key partnership with All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton when the 2024-25 season opens.
Pistons
Fresh off a 60-win campaign, the Detroit Pistons aim to add perimeter shooting and another playmaker next to Cade Cunningham, according to Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press. Tyler Herro continues to surface in speculation tied to a possible three-team deal involving Giannis Antetokounmpo. Trey Murphy III and Kyrie Irving have also been floated as potential targets, each requiring significant assets in return.
Detroit’s front office has signaled it does not plan to simply run back last season’s roster after the club’s breakthrough year.
