The Atlanta Hawks have secured veteran guard CJ McCollum for another season, reaching a one-year, $21 million contract extension, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Agent Sam Goldfeder of Excel Sports Management told Charania the agreement includes a trade kicker. McCollum, 34, was eligible to sign an extension through June 30 and had been set to enter the final year of his existing deal.
The 13-year NBA veteran joined Atlanta in January from Washington as part of the Trae Young trade and quickly became a key contributor. Over 41 regular-season games with the Hawks, he averaged 18.7 points while hitting 35.7 percent from beyond the arc.
McCollum’s arrival helped ignite an 18-2 finish that secured a playoff spot. In the opening round against the eventual champion New York Knicks, he scored 32 points in a Game 2 win at Madison Square Garden and knocked down a late fadeaway jumper to clinch Game 3, giving Atlanta a 2-1 series lead.
The extension also extends McCollum’s league-best streak of seasons with at least 150 made three-pointers to 11.
