Bucks Leveraging Antetokounmpo’s Miami Preference in Ongoing Trade Talks

Milwaukee, WI — The Milwaukee Bucks are using Giannis Antetokounmpo’s stated interest in joining the Miami Heat as a bargaining chip in negotiations with Miami, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Jackson reports that Milwaukee’s front office hopes to leave the Heat in a weakened roster position if a deal is reached. He suggests Antetokounmpo could deter other suitors by publicly declaring he will sign an extension only with Miami—a move that might keep the Heat from adding another young player, such as Kasparas Jakucionis or Pelle Larsson, to the current package of Tyler Herro, Kelel Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and draft picks.

Jackson adds that the Orlando Magic, per a Saturday note from Pro Basketball Talk, do not plan to chase Antetokounmpo and intend to return with their existing roster next season.

Potential Third-Team Involvement

HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto confirms Marc Stein’s earlier report that the Detroit Pistons are willing to facilitate a Heat-Bucks trade by taking on Herro. Detroit’s possible offer includes draft capital along with Isaiah Stewart, Ron Holland, and Duncan Robinson; Robinson’s $16 million contract for 2026-27 carries only a $2 million guarantee until January 10.

Celtics and Clippers Monitoring Jaylen Brown Scenario

Should Boston decide to part with Jaylen Brown to acquire Antetokounmpo, Scotto’s sources say Milwaukee might keep Brown rather than flip him elsewhere. Brown is signed for three more seasons at roughly $183 million.

The Los Angeles Clippers are also tracking Brown’s status, Scotto notes. L.A. can offer this year’s No. 5 draft pick and an unprotected 2029 first-round selection from Indiana obtained in the Ivica Zubac trade. Within Milwaukee’s scouting department, Illinois guard Keaton Wagler is reportedly well regarded; the prospect is represented by Matt Bollero of ProMondo Sports, a former Bucks senior director of scouting.

The trade landscape remains fluid as teams gauge Milwaukee’s demands and Antetokounmpo’s willingness to commit long-term in any new market.
