New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson named Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic as the most famous person in his phone during a recent interview with Kids Sports Reporters on Instagram.
Brunson, who played alongside Doncic with the Dallas Mavericks before leaving for New York in free agency, joked that the four-time All-Star was a “horrible teammate” before quickly defending him when one of the young interviewers questioned Doncic’s defense. Brunson noted that the Slovenian guard “does play defense and tries hard,” referencing the Lakers guard’s improved effort last season that included ranking among league leaders in charges drawn.
The friendship dates back to their time in Dallas, where the Mavericks allowed Brunson to depart without compensation and, later, traded Doncic to Los Angeles while he was still in his prime. Brunson has since led the Knicks to their first NBA championship in 53 years.
Doncic’s offseason focus includes full participation in workouts after receiving medical clearance from a Grade 2 left hamstring strain that ended his 2025-26 campaign. The Lakers are expected to build around the 27-year-old as he pursues his first NBA title.
