Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic said the most noticeable result of his recent body transformation was a dramatic drop in fatigue during games.

“Above all, I was less tired. That was the most important thing, and I think I moved around better. The change was very good for me,” the 27-year-old told Jorge Quiroga of Marca in a Spanish-language interview that was later translated into English.

Doncic’s new training and diet regimen drew widespread attention last summer and carried into a standout 2025-26 campaign. He led the NBA in scoring at 33.5 points per game while adding 7.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 1.6 steals. The performance delivered his sixth All-NBA First Team selection and a fourth-place finish in MVP voting, the second-best showing of his career.

The Slovenian star is known for fast starts—he frequently tops the league in first-quarter scoring—but he appeared to lose steam late in games during Los Angeles’ first-round playoff exit to the Minnesota Timberwolves. That postseason disappointment, coupled with his trade from the Dallas Mavericks, convinced him to overhaul his conditioning routine.

According to team officials, Doncic has remained committed to the same workout and nutrition plan as he prepares for the 2026-27 season. He is also fully recovered from the grade 2 left hamstring strain that sidelined him at the end of last year’s regular season.

Looking ahead, Doncic outlined what he believes the Lakers need to contend for a title. “I think mainly shooters and a big man who can run the pick-and-roll and jump so I can pass to him. If I have shooters, they won’t double me as much and it helps me out,” he said.

The Lakers front office now faces the task of assembling the supporting cast their franchise centerpiece has in mind as training camp approaches.
