Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic has remained in regular communication with LeBron James and Austin Reaves since the Los Angeles Lakers’ season ended, a source close to Doncic told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
The conversations have centered almost entirely on golf, according to the report. Doncic, who picked up the sport in February, has reportedly bonded with the two Lakers over their shared interest rather than lobbying them to return to Los Angeles.
Both James and Reaves will enter free agency this summer, leaving the future of the trio that closed last season on a strong note uncertain. The Lakers’ front office faces roster decisions aimed at restoring championship contention, but Doncic has chosen not to add pressure by discussing contracts with his teammates, the source said.
While recruitment has not been part of the dialogue, the report notes that Doncic still believes the three can compete for a title together. That sentiment is understood by James and Reaves, eliminating the need for further persuasion.
Doncic’s own offseason began early when a Grade 2 strain of his left hamstring forced him out of the playoffs. He has since been cleared for all basketball activities and has started a full training program.
