The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to scour the 2026 unrestricted free-agent market in an effort to assemble a championship-caliber supporting cast for star guard Luka Doncic.

Team officials, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, have identified several veterans and young contributors who could address specific roster needs this summer. Detroit Pistons forward Tobias Harris, Miami Heat guard Norman Powell, Chicago Bulls guard Anfernee Simons, New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson, Charlotte Hornets guard Coby White, Philadelphia 76ers guard Quentin Grimes, Cleveland Cavaliers forward Dean Wade and Knicks guard Landry Shamet are among the names under consideration.

Skill Sets Under Review

• Powell, White, Simons and Grimes offer perimeter scoring, outside shooting and secondary playmaking, attributes the front office believes would balance Doncic’s ball-dominant style.

• Harris, a versatile forward fresh off a strong playoff run with Detroit, provides size, experience and positional flexibility comparable to incumbent forward Rui Hachimura.

• Wade supplies defensive versatility and reliable spot-up shooting, though he is viewed primarily as a stopper rather than an offensive initiator.

• Robinson, coming off a championship season in New York, is regarded as one of the league’s premier offensive rebounders and an elite lob target—traits that historically pair well with Doncic’s pick-and-roll mastery.

• Shamet, who also contributed to New York’s title run, brings three-point accuracy and a reputation for high basketball IQ.

Decisions on Current Personnel

Los Angeles must also resolve the futures of its own free agents. Sharpshooter Luke Kennard has reportedly expressed interest in remaining with the organization on a long-term deal.

With free agency, potential trades and the NBA Draft all on the table, the Lakers’ front office will weigh which combination of moves can elevate the club into contention next season.
