The Golden State Warriors are weighing the possibility of moving back in next week’s NBA Draft, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints. League sources told Siegel the front office has been “very active” in recent trade discussions and has investigated ways to secure an additional first-round selection in the high teens.
Golden State reportedly contacted the Charlotte Hornets two weeks ago to discuss a package built around the Warriors’ No. 11 pick in exchange for Charlotte’s Nos. 14 and 18 selections. Sources indicated the Hornets declined, preferring to keep both of their first-round choices.
The Warriors have been linked to several players expected to be available at No. 11, including Brayden Burries and Michigan products Yaxel Lendeborg, Aday Mara and Morez Johnson. However, Siegel noted the club is also monitoring prospects projected to go slightly later, specifically Karim Lopez, Cameron Carr and Bennett Stirtz.
Stirtz was a late addition to Golden State’s group workout on Thursday, fueling speculation the former Iowa guard could become a surprise target. Carr, who worked out the same day, is also drawing sincere interest from team evaluators.
Appearing Thursday on 95.7 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs,” Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski said the organization is focused on selecting a player “ready to play right away,” emphasizing experience and physical maturity.
Separately, Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area listed Carr, Lendeborg, Burries, Johnson and Washington center Hannes Steinbach as fits for Golden State, while cautioning Burries may be off the board before the 11th pick.
The Warriors hold one lottery selection but continue to gauge trade scenarios that could reshape their position on draft night.
