Milwaukee Gauges Trade Packages for Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Milwaukee Bucks are canvassing the league for concrete trade proposals involving Giannis Antetokounmpo and intend to decide on his future before the NBA draft, according to multiple team and league sources cited by The Athletic.

Heat Remain Primary Suitor

Rival executives still view the Miami Heat as the favorites. The reported framework features Tyler Herro, rookie center Kelel Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., either Pelle Larsson or Kasparas Jakucionis, and as many as three first-round picks. Herro’s decision to unfollow the Heat on Instagram this week intensified speculation that a deal could be near.

Other Clubs in the Mix

The Celtics, Timberwolves, and Magic are also negotiating with Milwaukee, while the Trail Blazers have signaled interest but are currently viewed as a potential third-team facilitator. Sources say the Bucks would like to recoup draft capital they sent to Portland in the 2023 Damian Lillard trade.

Boston’s Pitch

League insiders describe Boston as a serious threat to Miami’s pursuit. Antetokounmpo is believed to be open to a four-year, $275 million extension with the Celtics. A two-team swap would likely send Jaylen Brown to Milwaukee, which would then look to reroute Brown for younger players and additional picks.

Minnesota’s Offer and Limitations

The Bucks have shown interest in a package from Minnesota built around Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reid, Terrence Shannon Jr., and the Wolves’ two tradable first-round selections (No. 29 this year and their 2033 pick). Minnesota has informed Milwaukee that McDaniels and young center Joan Beringer are off limits, and it remains unclear whether Antetokounmpo would sign an extension with the Wolves.

Trust Issues After February Standoff

Some front offices remain skeptical following Milwaukee’s approach at February’s deadline, when the team entertained bids for Antetokounmpo but ultimately stood pat. General manager Jon Horst is now being asked to specify what offers he would accept to reduce speculation and limit player name leaks.

Bucks co-owner Jimmy Haslam said last month that the franchise hopes to settle Antetokounmpo’s status before the draft, leaving 11 days for negotiations to reach a conclusion.
